Vacances à Versailles

You didn't think the Girls' Trip ended there, did you?? In fact, it's only just begun! This next excursion needs its own post though, because it took us a whole day.

We went to Versailles!

I had grand plans to wake up early and get us all on the train, but we had a few snafoos and ultimately someone made the executive decision to call a taxi. A little more expensive than the train? Yes. Saved us some time and sanity? Priceless.

We bought breakfast while waiting for said taxi.

Arrivée!

We started inside the palace and quickly got separated to the point where anyone who was sharing a location was seeing sisters in different wings of the building and a couple people out in the grounds. It took a few phone calls and vague directions like "I'm by that room with mirrors" and "well, I'm out by the statues in the hallway!" or "I think I'm in the Queen's chambers?"

I did really like this hall of statues. It felt very Narnia.

Eventually we made our way outside (together) and made our way to the Petit Trianon:

I can't help but imagine what the grounds of Versailles would look like in the spring or summertime. Did you know it's a public park all year round?

Love all the pink marble.

We explored a bit indoors too, down in the kitchens.

Couldn't resist a Medusa moment. (The red door was from two days ago, but I figured the side-by-side comparison was more effective this way).

And even ran into a friend of mine from LA! Someone please tell me, what are the odds! :)

Next stop was somewhere I'd never been before. The Queen's Hamlet!

It was gorgeous and sunny on the walk over, if a bit chilly.

And then of course the rain came out of nowhere and landed in the fattest drops I think I've ever encountered.

But no better place to hide from the rain than in Versailles!

But no amount of rain will ruin our mood! (Or our straightened hair!)

Met some locals. They were unfazed by the weather.

Eventually the rain let up and we walked back to the palace.

We fled the palace grounds just in time for another absolute deluge to come down on our heads, and ducked into a little crepe shop a couple streets away for a late lunch/ afternoon snack.

A photo of me translating the menu for Mom.

With such an action-packed day we didn't have any plans scheduled for the evening, which was probably a good thing. By the time we got back, everyone was exhausted. I had a dinner with friends and barely made it through the evening before crashing back at the AirBnb, dreaming of gold mirrors and fancy curtains!
